báaxal
"Báaxal" is a collection of table lamps inspired by the Mayan Ball Game ( El juego de la Pelota). These concrete lamps are a representation of my Mexican Heritage and culture in a contemporary context. Báaxal is meant to subtly reference Mayan culture without overtly appropriating it. Their lack of orientation allows the user to arrange and combine them in any way they would like.
Assignment: Develop a family of objects that you can fully self-produce. The final collection should clearly articulate an innovative voice and vision. The idea is to highlight your voice as a designer.
Materials: Rockite, Quickrete, Plexiglass, LED strip, plywood and reoflex urethane rubber.
Machines used: CNC machine, band saw, laser cutter.
